Excursion to Eilean Donan Castle & Isle of Skye
After a scenic drive to the coast we hopped on a ferry and traveled to the Isle of Skye, famous for its association with Bonnie Prince Charlie. We visited the Clan Donald Centre which portrays clan life on the island and pays homage to Gaelic culture and Highland history. This is where we thought we were going on a mile trail walk that ended up being 4 miles through the woods, whoops!
After getting in some exercise from our hike we made our way back to mainland and over to the banks of Loch Duich to visit the Eilean Donan Castle, arguable one of the most photographed castles in Scotland. It was absolutely gorgeous. This was one of our favorite days in Scotland.
The first castle was built in the mid-13th century. Since then, four different versions have been built/re-built at the site after the castle was destroyed in various feuds. Shortly after our visit we came across a video of The Piano Guys performing a Rachel Platton Scottish Cover of This is Your Fight Song at the location. Check out the beautiful video here. It brought tears to my eyes after watching it. I will definitely be going back one day. 🙂
